Following the frustration of being rained off last week, we were keen to play against a Dishforth side which has continued to struggle this year, following successive relegations.
We were pleased Joe Buckley arrived early at Bluecote Wood, so he could finish off preparing the square, by the time the players arrived the ground looked great - thanks Joe!
The Dishforth skipper won the toss and elected to field first, so usual openers James Thompson (13) and Rob Clarke (32) looked to take advantage of a very limited attack.
Good work from Graham Clark (26) took us to 84 for 1 before Mark Lowson (5 for 25) used the conditions superbly to reduce us to 98 for 5. this is the first time this year we have been under pressure, but the batsmen dug in with Neil Laurence (37 not out) in particular impressing to take us to 172 for 7 wickets.
A fantastic tea from Rob's mum set us up for the second half of the match.
The Dishforth opening batsmen Mark Lowson (32) and ex-Ash player Steve Hawkswell (2) struggled early on against Mark Taylor and Joe Buckley.
It was Joe who blasted out Hawkswell and the dangerous Steve Wilson (0) but Dan Bettles-Hall (12) and Adrian Porter (36) taking advantage of being dropped SIX times, kept things interesting.
It took the youthful duo of Dan Harrington (3 for 32) and Adam Firth (4 for 10) to show how it should be done as the last 6 wickets fell for 10 runs as the innings closed at 111 all out.
In a game where we took 7 catches, it was the 6 we put down which caused the most concern and against a better team we might have greater cause for regret.
Nevertheless, another 6 point victory as we continue in hot pursuit of leaders Lofthouse & Middlesmoor, we we welcome to Bluecoat Wood in a couple of weeks time.
