Following lat week's defeat to Lofthouse, we were keen to return to winning ways against a struggling Darley 2nds.
A number of regulars were unavailable and we were grateful to club stalwart Dave Druett, and club President John Littlewood for stepping in. Nevertheless, we only had 10 men for this important fixture.
The game got off to a bad start when the Darley skipper refused to shake hands with Ash skipper, James Thompson, following a game last season. Andrew Furniss - note the name - what happens on the field stays there, welcome to the 'Hall of Shame', your behaviour was a disgrace!
Batting first, Ash openers James Thompson (14) and Rob Clarke (79) put on 64 for the first wicket before first teamer Rob Hainsworth (2 for 32) got Thompson with a beauty, an inswinging yorker.
Ned McClelland (1) quickly followed, Tim Marriner taking an excellent one handed catch off the same bowler.
An excellent 50 run third wicket partnership between Clarkey and Mark Taylor (56 not out) put us in a great position for Adam Tomlinson (37) and Neil Laurence (11 not out) to then push us on to 219 for 4 wickets.
An excellent tea from Darley's John Clarke (well, his wife and daughter) set us up for the second innings.
We made a great start with opening bowlers Mark Taylor (3 for 47) and Ned McClelland (4 for 17) both grabbing early wickets and keeping a tight rein on the run rate.
Three Darley batsmen J Sands (26) R Hainsworth (27) and skipper Furniss (29) all looked comfortable but amazingly two of them fell to Rob 'golden arm' Clarke (2 for 32) who claimed later 'my mum won't believe it' - neither could we!!
The fourth bowler, Dan Harrington (7 - 0 - 18 - 0) produced a great spell to support the wicket takers - your time will come!
The work behind the stumps of Neil Laurence was very tidy, his 4 catches reward for his good work. The other catches were taken by John Bowman and Mark Taylor.
The Darley innings closed at 122 all out for another 6 point victory, and it was back to The Harlow Inn for a well earned drink.
