Pannal Ash   v   South Kilvington

Another hot, sunny day for the first home game of the season against fellow promotion contenders, South Kilvington.

We were keen to see how the square would play following the work over winter and, after Raymond Windsors, the Kilvington skipper, won the toss and asked us to bat, we would be the first to find out.

The opening pair of skipper James Thompson and left hander Matt Hanson strode out, Matt returning to the pavilion after facing one ball, an inswinging yorker which deflected onto the stumps.

Ned McClelland (5) quickly followed and we were 31 for 2, out strode Rob Clarke (34) and put on 51 for the third wicket to follow last week's double century stand.

Mark Taylor (1) fell to a stunning catch before Adam Tomlinson (28) shared in a 64 run partnership, skipper James Thompson (79 not out) the constant at the other hand!

A final total of 165 for 6 was achieved in the face of some tidy bowling from the Kilvington attack, most notably Richard Kirby (2 for 36) and James Thompson (3 for 34).

A fine tea from Alan 'Marco Pierre' Pitt set us up nicely for the second innings, Mike Merryweather volunteering to don the 'keeper's gloves' having watched his skipper bat for 45 overs!

We were keen to make early in-roads to the batting line-up and Mark Taylor (4 for 31) grabbed two in his second over.

The dangerous Richard Kirby (49) fell to slow bowler Matt Hanson (2 for 32) as only andy Carver (42) made double figures as Ned McClelland (3 for 39) and Dan Harrington (1 for 18) kept a tight rein on the batting.

Good work behind the stumps from Mike Merryweather and no dropped catches ensured the reply ended up on 133 all out.

Another 6 point victory sets us up nicely for next week's home fixture with Bilton 3rds.
