First day of the season and an away game at Pateley bridge, the sun was shining and it's a great place to be for a game of cricket.
We lost the toss, but the Pateley captain decided to bowl first on what looked like a great track.
Skipper James Thompson (73) and Rob Clarke (126) opened for the Ash and punished anything not on the spot in a stunning opening partnership of 213.
The momentum was maintained by Ned McClelland (15), Mark Taylor (22) and particularly new man Adam Tomlinson (34 not out) as we pushed on to 319 for 5.
After a fantastic tea it was decided that Clarkey was feeling too sore from his batting escapades so skipper James Thompson donned the 'keeper's gloves' and Mark Taylor led the team.
Against an intimidating total only Gareth Foxton (59), Stuart Jauncey (38) and James Johnson (24) got into double figures as Mark Taylor (5 for 41) and Ned McClelland (3 for 77) kept the total down to 194 all out.
A 6 point start to the season, but there's still a long way to go!
