The Pannal Ash under 13's team played their second game of the season at the Pateley Bridge venue, the gateway to Nidderdale. Captain Greg Harrison won the toss and elected to bat first.
Greg opened the batting himself with Lauren Thompson. Unfortunately things did not go to plan early on as both Greg and Lauren fell early and number 3 Dan Gillbanks also fell early on. We then found ourselves with one run for three wickets on the board. Debutant Ollie Bowes hit a straight 4 and looked as though he was in the mood to score some runs, however he managed to plonk a long hop straight down the mid wickets throat and quickly departed himself. We then saw an excellent partnership of 41 between Luke Watson (18) and
Jake McNulty (10) who took the score past the 50 mark. Ashley Collett got a beauty to remove him fairly quickly before Joe Mercer (8) smacked a couple of hefty blows to take us to a total of 74 for 6 wickets.
This was an excellent effort considering the poor start we had and after a drink of orange juice we went back out for the second innings.
The opening bowlers of Greg Harrison and Ollie Bowes were fired up to get stuck in early. Again, things didn't go to plan with Greg's first ball being deposited by opening batsman
Jay Furniss (27 - retired not out) and fellow opener N Tulley (18) getting stuck in and scoring some early runs. The first wicket to fall fell to Dan Gillbanks who bowled Tulley, and then Mercer also managed to bag a wicket as well before L Foxton (14) guided his team home for a 7 wicket victory.
Despite another defeat we are making excellent progress and can again take many positives out of the performance, there were plenty of good balls bowled and some excellent fielding, we just need to ensure we put it together at the same time.
