For the first time, Pannal Ash Juniors have won the Arthur Barrett Cup. In cold, dull dreary weather at St George's Road on Friday evening they defeated Bilton Juniors, first winners of the trophy by six wickets. There can be no doubt that Pannal ash deserved their success.

 After conceding nine runs in the first over Pannal Ash bowlers B Hawkins and T Nolan settled down to a length and the Bilton batsmen had to work hard for the runs. So well did Hawkins and Nolan bowl that in a period of six weeks during the middle of the innings only four runs were scored - and these in singles. Not one Bilton batsman was able to record a double-figure score, and Pannal Ash could feel well satisfied when Bilton had scored on 44-8 in the 25 overs.

 Just when Pannal Ash needed a good start Nolan was run out at one after a misunderstanding, and at 11 Bilton had further success when Crabtree was leg before to Guy.

 Guy was Bilton's trump card. He soon bowled Sellers but could not remove E Greensword who was playing beautifully.

 Greensword and his skipper, B Hawkins, carried the score to 31 where Hawkins was another Buy victim, but Greensword was still there and along with T McDermott he made sure of a Pannal Ash victory.

Two of Greensword's hits for four pitched - just inside the boundary and he had a five-all run. Buy was the best Bilton bowler on view with 3-14 and he flighted the ball well.

 Col J Came who is now commandant at the Army Apprentices' School, presented the cup to the skipper of the Pannal Ash team.
